Double Exposure in Photoshop, what do you think?

I have been playing around with double exposures in photoshop. The image below is somewhat changed from one previously posted. Do you think it is an improvement? The image was created using two layers in Photoshop and then combining the two layers. The bottom layer was blurred using Filters / Blur / Gaussian Blur.

You can see the original if you follow the link below.

Yesterday I went to the Toowoomba (Queensland, Australia) flower show, it was a blaze of colour. For the whole day I used mostly the 105mm VR lens, an excellent choice for this type of photography. There was only one word to describe the display, magnificent.

These digital cameras are marvelous as I was able to take hundreds of images. Some samples are included below, close ups of poppies, tulips and the colourfull flower beds.

There was also a street parade and I used the 105mm lens for this also, as the VR comes in very handy for this type of use. A sample image from the street parade is included below. Even in the street parade the theme is flowers.

How Many Mega Pixels Do You Need

Camera manufacturers seem to be on the ever increasing need for Mega Pixels. What does more MPixels give the photographer?

Currently I use a 4 MPixel camera and take all my images in Raw format (.NEF). This gives me flexibility to correct for any image issues, such as white balance etc. Processing of the small files is fast and the storage capacity requirements are modest. But the camera advertisments tell us we need more MPixels, even the tiny point and shoot cameras are providing 12-14 MPixels with such a small size sensor.

Is my 4 MPixel camera enough? Well for most applications it is, however for images such as landscapes, more would be better, perhaps up to 12 MPixels. That is where some of the newer DSLR’s such as the Nikon D700  and D3 appear to provide good solutions, such as 5MPixels in DX mode and 12 MPixels in FX mode. A DX general mode and an FX landscape mode, seems to be a great idea. Am I starting to feel a need to upgrade?

A sailing boat entering the Gold Coast Seaway, Queensland, Australia. This image was taken with the Nikon, 105mm, f/2.8, Micro lens. This lens is not just for close up work, but is a very versatile, general purpose lens.

This image did not turn out as sharp as I would have liked. Not because of the lens, the Goldfish was in a very large glass bottle which was not of great optical quality. However I still like the image.
