Echidnas or spiny ant eaters as they are commonly known, are familiar to most Australians. Echidnas are mammals that lay eggs and are about 30 cm to 45 cm in length and weigh between 2 kg and 5 kg. The body of the echidna is mainly covered with cream coloured spines. There is also some fur between the spines to keep them warm. A very interesting mammal.
